They say that the richest place in any city the world is the cemetery. I concur. Each and every one of us has a part to play in the grand drama that is humanity. And each and every day we make a choice to rise to the occasion or to give in to our baser instincts. We make the decision to be victims or to be survivors. The one characteristic trait that distinguishes the winners from the losers is this : winners are able to get out of their own way. They are able to get over themselves. They are able to decide that just because they don’t feel like doing something doesn’t mean that it won’t get done. You see, it’s a preference. How you feel about someone – no matter how badly they treated you is a choice. You either make a choice to rise above your emotions and push forward or to wallow in your emotions and never grow. How you part ways with a former employer determines whether you will sit and talk about them for the next 20 years or take the high road – learn form the experience and build your own empire. We simply need to learn to get over ourselves in every way, shape and form.
Personally, I am so tired of hearing people say things like – It’s how I was feeling at the time. Or I wasn’t feeling this thing or that person. I don’t always feel like exercising but I do it because I know it’s good for me and my body will thank me later. I don’t always feel like working but I know that the more I put in now, the easier it will be in a few years to relax. I don’t always feel like holding back – sometimes I want to take a trip and laze on a beach but I know that if I deny myself now, I’ll be able to indulge later.
Great men and women didn’t build great empires and legacies because they listened to how they felt. They conditioned their thinking to a certain preference code. That preference allowed them to push through when most normal people gave up. They took they hits. They got up after the failures. They dared to risk again and invest again. They lost friends and were ridiculed. But in the end, they proved the world wrong.
Today, on our 4th day of this #31daysofwoohoo journey, I ask you – what do you need to do to get out of your own way? Because frankly, they world isn’t going to sit around and wait for you to be great. Greatness is born every second and achieved with every decision. So today, whether or not I feel like blogging and sharing, I do it. Because I love to write, but also because I am building something great. Whether you believe it or not, whether you feel it or not, whether you see it or not, is your decision, not mine. Today I make a choice to dig deeper and work harder and go farther and sacrifice more because in the end, once I have gotten out of my own way, it will all be worth it.
