So I’m about who knows how many days behind – it’s been a tough season, but I am determined that I will finish this race and finish strong. I am also learning that finishing is not the only thing that matters. Consistency is also key. So for the days I was not consistent, I apologize.
Every day I wake up and I am more proud of who I am as an African woman – an African voice. I am proud of my kinky curls – I made the big chop last year and am loving exploring my natural hair. I have embraced it, More so, I am so loving where God chose to drop me on this pretty pretty planet and who He picked to surround me from all across the globe. I truly have angels walking with me and watching over me here on earth.
Finally, I learn daily how much inspiration I draw from breathing the African air under the African sun and feeling the African breeze on my African skin. I derive pleasure from the birds in the air (both day and night); from just how bright an African sky is at night – the stars shine so bright, each one telling a different story for a hero(ine) falling or yet to rise; the sound of the frogs that will not let me sleep right after a refreshing downpour. Most annoying yet oh so musical; the crickets that stand guard to usher in dawntime or dusk time.
And then there’s the people: tall, short, skinny, round, robust, demure, full of life, full of love, full of laughter. They live for football (some call it soccer) and they live for rugby. They surround themselves with things of beauty from vibrant music and poetry to lively fabric be it in their rich attire or in their rich sense of decoration. They love hard, live hard and run towards politics like it dictates the world – and truly it does dictate their world. I will say it again:
I AM A PRODUCT OF THE SOIL FROM WHENCE I ROSE: THE RICH, FRAGRANT EARTH THAT GAVE ME MY CHOCOLATE SKIN. THE RED, COPPER EARTH OUT OF WHICH MY DREAMS WERE BIRTHED.
So today, embrace who you are. I give you permission to fly on the wings and soar on the gales of your roots, Let them carry you where you ancestors once dreamed. Let them speak to dreams once never dared. Let them sing the songs long silenced by the past. Let them birth the new you and nurture the real you and liberate the core of who you are – BEAUTIFUL!
You are Beautiful – Empowered – Visionary
You are @BeautifulPetal_
