Passionately Purified

By June 30, 2013Uncategorized

This past week has been amazing.

I am slowly but surely opening myself up to the reality that this is the season in which God will expose me.

During this time, in this season, I am drawing closer to Him and He is drawing me closer moment by moment. My every waking moment and every sleeping wink is consumed by Him. I watch the sun rise and the moon set; I hear the birds sing and the wind croon; I feel love, hate, anger and joy all around in every single day. Each day is a new chapter in my life and in your life – a chance to start a fresh and make amends.

It is baffling to me how within the human psyche we can feel such a rainbow of emotions, each and every one powerful enough to destroy lives or revive hope. There is a seed of greatness on the inside of us all. A seed so small and yet so powerful that once injected in the bloodline and passed through the veins has the power to give life or to take life. The choice between the giving and the taking rests in the womb of our soul. We decide whether we feed the giver or the taker. We all take in the same seed and incubate it and at the end of our days here on earth we look back and write our own reports.

An old Cherokee legend tells of a grandfather teaching his grandson about life.

“A fight is going on inside of me” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued; “The other one is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside of every other person too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied. “The one you feed”.

I put it to you today ladies and gentlemen, that there are two major fights going on inside of each and every one of us every single day. There is the fight between good and evil and there is the fight between living and dying. You can be physically alive but dead on the inside. It is easy to get caught up in a myth that tells you as long as you are not a bad person and you mind you own business, then you will be fine. And yet every second of every day you know that there has got to be more to life than what it is you do. So you daily win the fight between good and evil but you never understand that there is a bigger fight between living out your passion or dying in complacency.

Lately the living passionately side of me has been disturbed so much so that I look for every opportunity to speak truth and life into the purpose and destiny of the people I interact with. If it is a heartfelt thank you to the cleaner at the office or a passionate God bless you to a guard I meet in the street or a big bright smile to brighten up someone else’s day or the biggest longest talk to a teenager in crisis … whatever it is, I know I was created to activate purpose, speak to destiny and pull out passion.

My question to you today is – what is your ‘thing’? What were you created to do? What do you yearn for? What is it you strive to suppress yet no matter how far you run, you find yourself right in the heart of it, doing it so well or wishing you could do it 24hours every day?

I suddenly feel a sense of urgency. Too many people out there spend too much time doing too many things they have no business doing and end up achieving nothing. A former boss once told me that you can be so busy everything that you really do nothing at all. I beg you, stop doing everything, focus on that one thing and get it done while you still have life inside of you.

Above all, to quote a line from a random place, “It’s not who you are that defines you, it’s what you do”. [from the movie Batman Begins]

Today I beg you to define your tomorrow before the world confines you to your yesterday. Live your today like there is no tomorrow because there is no guarantee that you will see tomorrow.
