I have often heard it said that a New Year’s Resolution is the one thing that is most often broken. I have even heard it said that New Year’s Resolutions are emotional decisions based on the euphoria of the season.
Here’s my take on it:
I’ll be the first to admit that I have made resolutions in the past and broken them faster than one could say January 31st. I start off with Gusto and Razmataz, I shout them from the Mountain Tops and I run out of both strategy and energy before long. Does that mean I should stop altogether? No. In my opinion, you have got to be willing to fail before you succeed. In my Pastor’s experience, nobody is willing to sink money into the ideas of a man who has not failed even once. In the words of Donnie McLurkin, a saint is just a sinner who fell down and got up. In the words of The Bible, a wise man falls down seven times, but gets back up again.
Here’s my two cents. I have got to be willing to try in order to succeed. I have got to be brave enough to fail in order to win. I have made up my mind on certain things. I will write my vision and make it plain so that those who see it may run (Habakuk 2:2-3). I will then walk in faith knowing that He who begun a good work in me is faithful to complete it. I will work out my salvation and this faith walk to fulfill my purpose with fear and trembling. I am assured that with Christ, all things are possible and that He who is with me is greater than he who is in the world. Then, and only then will I try and try again and refuse to fail. And I will do it all in love.
So today, I implore you to sit down, think about it. Pray about it. Write it down, write out a strategy, find an accountability partner, agree on the way forward and begin to do it. Afterall, what’s the worst that can happen? YOU FAIL AND TRY AGAIN. And what’s the best that could happen? YOU CONQUER THAT HURDLE AND MIVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE. Never cower, never fear, and refuse to back down.
In The Eternal One’s words to Joshua, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be discouraged, neither be ye dismayed, for the Lord your God will go with you wherever you go.” Happy New Year from one Beautiful Petal to another!
