Of Purpose and Starting

By November 18, 2015Uncategorized

So after yesterday’s blog, someone wrote to me asking “But how do you deal with it?”.

I spoke about how not everyone around you is your cheerleader and not everyone is there for you and how a lot of people are in it for them until they find that they can not (or no longer) gain from you. And then they vamoose leaving you high and dry.

So in these next three posts, I’m going to take you through how to deal with these people: STEP 1. DON’T BE AFRAID TO START. You see the problem with that statement and that thinking and that mentality (how do we deal with them) is that it focuses on the people and takes your focus away from your purpose. You see, your assignment was given to you and you alone. Some people will be along for the ride (all of it) and some people will step on and step off (part of the journey) but the common denominator between them and the you is THE JOURNEY. So when we take our focus off of the journey, and allow them to consume us, one of three things will happen.

  1. You focus on them and become consumed with their praise that when they leave it devastates you. Man’s affirmation is toxic. It will take your heart away from God’s directives, and thus the dream will die.
  2. You focus on them and become so consumed with their praise that when they try to leave you beg them to stay. Too much or anything is bad for you and they will soon become toxic. They will poison you and your dream and slowly the dream will die.
  3. You focus on them and become so consumed with their praise that when they leave you follow them. That means you turn away from your assignment to follow them towards theirs and so the dream will die.

So the easiest answer I have for you right now, the most direct instruction you will ever get about your purpose / destiny / assignment / calling or whatever it is that you want to call it is JUST START! Too often we do one, two or all of the above even before the baby has been born and there you have a Stillborn Assignment. Just start. Don’t wait for the conditions to be perfect. Just Begin. Don’t wait for the right people to be there. Just start. Don’t wait to be ready. Just start. Turn away from people and run towards your destiny with everything that you have inside of you.

And just like that, you no longer even see the people on the sidelines. The right ones will know their place and hold their space. The wrong ones will get annoyed or tired and leave. So JUST START! As I read somewhere today: “Don’t stare at the closed door too long … You’ll miss the window opening.!” – [Unknown]
