Genesis 2: 2-3, 8-9, [THE VOICE]
2 On the seventh day—with the canvas of the cosmos completed—God paused from His labor and rested. 3 Thus God blessed day seven and made it special—an open time for pause and restoration, a sacred zone of Sabbath-keeping, because God rested from all the work He had done in creation that day.
8 The Eternal God planted a garden in the east in Eden—a place of utter delight—and placed the man whom He had sculpted there. 9 In this garden, He made the ground pregnant with life—bursting forth with nourishing food and luxuriant beauty. He created trees, and in the center of this garden of delights stood the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The concept of rest has always fascinated me. I find myself mostly restless and mostly at night. Since I was a child, I dreaded going to sleep because I felt I would miss out on a lot of important ‘stuff’. I have always been the early riser because I feel that there’s a lot to be done. and in the epic romance between Mbone (that’s me) and Yahweh, I find that it is in the wee hours of the night that our pillow talk is the sweetest hence it is in the wee hours of the night that I am able to write / create / think / formulate and bring forth strategy.
So in the above text, God paused from his labor and rested. i have an idea that the reason why we live in a restless world is because we cannot find rest. And the reason why we cannot find rest is because we have not labored enough. it is only when you have labored and poured out yourself that you will truly find rest. When I write, I am alive. I thrive, I glow, ideas flow, I giggle, I erase and redo until I’m done. It is only once I have finished a work that I have peace about it – that I enter rest. When God blessed the sabbath day, it was not because it was the day to rest: conversely, he was putting a final sacredness to the works of His labor. “He made it special – an open time for pause and restoration, a sacred zone because he rested from all the work done in creation”.
When you look at the description of the created works and the creation, God created “A place of utter delight” and “made the ground pregnant with life” “bursting forth with nourishing food and luxurious beauty”. He was not just creating because the need was there, He was pouring Himself into every created work. You, me, the birds, the bees, the beasts, the fish, everything has perfection in it because everything was created in delight, pregnant with life, bursting forth with luxurious beauty. The creator took His time to create the perfect created works.
When I look at the work of my hands over the years, i am ashamed to say that most of it has been less than mediocre in view of the above. We were created to create because we were created in the image and likeness of the Creator. Therefore, everything I touch has the ability to burst forth with luxurious beauty and should be pregnant with life – I am supposed to pour myself into everything just as God poured himself into me.
Today, I speak to the creator in you: Remember our mandate from yesterday: Be Fruitful – Multiply – Populate the Earth: The difference between the directive and the end result is the middle-man: YOU AND ME: The unwritten instruction was that we must do so by creating a delightful creation, full of utter delight and pregnant with life and bursting forth with luxurious beauty. THAT IS OUR MANDATE.
So today, I challenge you – NO MORE MEDIOCRITY – Because if you are to enter rest as a sign of pure delight and worship for the labor of your hands, you must create a creation worthy of that rest.
Enter into rest as the King and Queen that you are.
You are Beautiful – Empowered – Visionary
